One installer per system: choose Desktop, Plugin, or both during installation. Basic and Pro are editions of Desktop. OptiBob Player is a separate free download.

What is a radio audio processor?

A radio audio processor manages the level, tonal balance and peaks of a broadcast signal. It helps a station maintain a consistent sound when tracks and voices arrive at different levels. Typical stages include automatic gain control (AGC), multiband compression and peak limiting.

OptiLive is a software multiprocessor for FM and web radio. Both Basic and Pro include two-speed AGC, five-band compression, a clipper and a true-peak limiter on Windows and Mac.

What does AGC do for a radio station?

AGC means automatic gain control. It adjusts gain as the incoming programme level changes, helping quiet and loud material reach a more consistent working level before the multiband compressor. It is not the same as simply turning up the volume or limiting peaks.

OptiLive uses a two-speed AGC stage before its five-band compressor. AGC is a standard broadcast-processing technique; the useful comparison is how the whole chain behaves on your station’s material.

The spectrum is split into five bands, each held in place on its own. This is where the dense, even radio colour comes from.

Peaks are shaved off with a controlled hand, so the loudness rises while the harshness stays out.

The last guard at the door. Intersample peaks are caught, so the output never overshoots its ceiling.

OptiLive is an independent software audio processor for FM and web radio, with its own dedicated processing algorithm. Basic is €30/year and Pro is €120/year at launch, with a 12-month licence and periodic updates. Try both on Windows or Mac before deciding which processor suits your station.

OptiLive as an Orban / Optimod alternative

Orban’s range includes different types of processor. OPTIMOD-PCn 1600 is software and includes AGC, multiband compression and peak limiting. For a useful comparison, choose a specific Optimod model and match its functions to your broadcast chain.

OptiLive offers a dedicated software chain with two-speed AGC, five-band compression, a clipper and a true-peak limiter. No dedicated audio-processing card is required. It is not an Orban product and is not a feature-for-feature replacement for every Optimod model.

OptiLive’s choice is between two editions: Basic for factory sounds and core controls, or Pro for individual band controls, crossovers and saved tunings. Both are annual licences.
